Like most innovative developments, RōBi Lee Design was created out of necessity. In the summer of 2005, Rowena Bing Lee being the social New York woman she is, was looking for the perfect “going out” bag. She was in her late twenties, a manager in the advertising field, she shopped, wined and dined in New York’s most popular trendy hot spots and most unique “hole in the walls.” Rowena is definitely part of the quintessential New York woman demographic. She wanted a functional, sexy bag that could hang conveniently at her wrist while she enjoyed networking with people in her industry or enjoyed a simple night out for a celebratory cocktail. Her answer layed in a cute bangle style bag. The ideal bag to her meant, being able to also hold her key necessities and look fashionably New York at the same time.

After scouring all summer for this look and concept to no avail, she decided to take matters into her own hands and design it herself. Since her office was located in the garment district she had been exposed to the countless leather, fabric and trimming stores. She had worked in that area for years, but never did she imagine that exposure would be the catalyst for fulfilling her life long dream. So, Rowena took her handbag design to a manufacturer and a sample was made. However, the first bag was never meant to attract so much attention. It was her own personal creation for her own individual use. The countless compliments she received made her realize she could not just walk away from the potential opportunity developing before her eyes. Months later, RōBi Lee Design was born.
